Areas of Interest
Dr. Babu’s research focuses on fundamental understanding of phase transformations during processing of advanced materials through computational modeling and characterization. Computational material modeling pertains to computational thermodynamics and kinetics modeling. Characterization relates to nanoscale characterization and in-situ time-resolved scattering using neutron and synchrotron beam lines. In addition, interdisciplinary research to develop and deploy integrated process modeling for automotive, aerospace, chemical, energy, medical, and microelectronics industries.

Dr. Babu joined OSU on 1st of October 2007, as associate professor through the College of Engineering’s Cluster-Hire in Computational Aspects of Multi-scale Materials Modeling. Before joining OSU, Dr. Babu served as technology leader of engineering and materials in Edison Welding Institute, North America’s premier research and development organization related to materials joining from 2005 to 2007. Before 2005, Dr. Babu held positions as senior research staff member at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and also joint positions between ORNL, University of Tennessee, Penn State University, as well as the National Institute of Materials Science, Japan..
